Black girl chronicles 19

‘We are the blessed birds, that god created nothing is sweeter than when we sing…..’

It has been a while since I have written a blog post, and I have just realised 3 years since my last Black girl chronicles. But mi here and mi ready to go.
I honestly admit the last year or so dealing with pandemic, plus the constant oppression we as Black people have faced does not end. Imagine this, while the world rested, racism continued and battered and crushed Black people and other ethnic minorities.

To be honest living in the U.K., while dealing with all of this is frankly suffocating. I am sure I am not the only one, who feels apprehensive and anxious about what the future holds for us?
The windrush generation, who are still being deported by the home office, and the constant pain they feel, their families feel it too. Yet nothing is done about this, how can they claim, the borders are closed to protect the citizens of the United Kingdom. Yet have them open to subject human beings to violence.

Another problem we have is that, Black women are still 5x more likely to die in comparison, to White women during childbirth and after childbirth and the NHS have admitted they have no plans to change this. If Black women’s lives mean nothing to you, please admit why instead of just saying you have no plans to improve the quality of life for them. Some Black women who are not parents yet, are afraid to get pregnant. They fear what will become of them, who will advocate for them, because it certainly won’t be the NHS….

The protests that happened last year, due to George floyds murder in America by the police. Here in Britain we felt the ramifications of that, we protested we raised our voices. We spoke on the issue, yet people often don’t account for the amount of emotional labour even just speaking out be. Not every Black person is cut out for protesting, yet our voices are loud and we will always be heard.

So I am back to continue, to lend my voice to speaking up and against the racism, oppression and brutality we have faced. We are the blessed birds, that god created nothing is sweeter than when we sing…..
